Pas is confident of retaining the Kemaman parliamentary seat that is set to be contested in December.
Party deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party’s machineries from all over the country will help with the campaign in Kemaman.
“As the by-election approaches, the party has agreed that all state representatives will come to assist in Kemaman. We hope to achieve outstanding success,” he told the crowd during Pas’ 69th Muktamar at Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) here yesterday
As for the candidate, he said the party was still vetting the names but was certain that the person will be from Pas.
“Many suggested names like Tun (Dr Mahathir Mohamad), some say Tan Sri Annuar Musa, some say Che Alias Hamid who had won a majority of 25,000.
“We want to win like Kuala Terengganu. Where initially we won with 40,000 (majority votes) then went on to garner 47,000 (in the by-election),” he added.
Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat was successfully retained by Pas in a by-election that was held concurrently with the six state elections.
Tuan Ibrahim also recalled Pas’ impressive performance in the last 15th General Election (GE15) and said that the party had gained a significant amount of supporters.
“I see the spirit from Pas members and supporters. Pas has one million members. Recently, we gained three million votes, which means we have over two million voters who support us but are not yet members. The majority of them are youths,” he added.
The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Dec 2 as polling day for the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election.
The commission also set Nov 18 as nomination day and Nov 28 for early voting.
